Born in Augusta, Fred grew up in Marietta. For 21 years Fred was a master carpenter at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta, doing everything from building cabinets to repairing pencil sharpeners. He was the school’s locksmith. He retired in 2015.He will be remembered for his quick wit and friendly attention. He was a member of the Northwest Georgia Archeology Society. Fred will also be remembered for the ten years he spent at WREK, the Georgia Tech radio station, as the voice of The DeSoto Hour, playing big band music, following in the footsteps of his father, who had filled that role for 25 years.
A celebration of Fred’s life was held at the Winkenhofer Pine Ridge cemetery in Kennesaw.
