Hungarian nobility, statesman. Considered one of the founders of Hungary's independence, his name is remembered for political commitment in order to obtain autonomy from the Hapsburg Empire. Although part of the aristocracy, his fervent nationalism brought him a death sentence in absentia and the exile in England where he lived from 1851 to 1857. Subsequently, thanks also to the Emperor Franz Joseph, and the Empress Elizabeth of Austria, Andrassy assumed the roles of President of the Hungarian Parliament, Secretary of State of the born double austro-hungarian monarchy, and Foreign Minister through which played an important function of political balance in relation to the growing power of Bismarck's Prussia. His numerous honors includes "Ordre de la Toison d'or", "Königlich ungarische Sankt-Stephans-Orden, Magyar királyi Szent István lovagrend", "Order of Saints Mauritius and Lazarus", "Order of the Crown of Italy", "Kungliga Serafimerorden av Sverige ". Gyula Andrassy died at the age of sixty-six due to sudden illness.
