John Wesley was a printer by trade, as was his brother Willis Franklin. In 1883, he published a paper in Vinton, Benton Co., Iowa, called the Vinton Observer. He also published the Hudson Banner, in Steuben Co., Indiana. He retired to a home on Fox Lake, in Steuben County. After his second wife Clara died in 1921, he moved to Pensacola, Florida where his daughter Lulu Miller lived. His death occurred when he was hit by a train in front of their home.
