Carol L. Wilcox, 77, of Pana, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield. She was born October 12, 1940 in Fremont, MI to Lewis & Marion O. (Rock) Geerlings.
Carol graduated from University of Illinois with a Master’s degree. She lived in the Shelbyville & Pana area most of her life. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pana, where she played the organ & piano, as well as the head of the Altar Guild & Bell Choir Director. Carol had worked as a substitute teacher for Pana School District, as well as a pharmacy tech for Metzger Drug and was the co-owner of the Lake Lawn. She was also an avid reader and loved to cook.
Carol Geerlings married M.E. “Gene” Mars on September 8, 1961 and they later divorced. She then married Richard “Rick” Wilcox on April 6, 1991 in Pana. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2012.
She is survived by her children: Janet (Don) West, Pana, IL; Deborah (Mark) Horton, Springfield, IL; Pamela Logue, Highland, IL; 5 grandchildren: Amanda (Josh) Shipman, Brian (Nicole) Blodgett, Joshua (Jenny) Cutler, Jacob Cutler (significant other, Mollie), Abigail Cutler; 10 great grandchildren: Desiree, Zophia, Avery, Vincent, Elliot, Adalyn, Reagan, Lia, Taylor & Hagen; and brother, Jon (Lou) Geerlings. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Geerlings and mother & step father, Marion & Len Seaman.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 9, 2018 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pana at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Terrence E. O’Brien officiating. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery, Rosamond. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
