Rowena Taliaferro, 96, of Sherman Texas, passed away on January 26 in Sherman, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on January 31st at Cedar Cemetery, near Tom Bean Texas, with Rev. Daniel Echols of the First United Methodist Church of Tom Bean and Rev. Donnie Haywood of the First United Methodist of Decatur officiating. Arrangements are by Dannel Funeral Home. There will be a reception following the graveside service at First United Methodist Church of Tom Bean.
Rowena Taliaferro was born in Alba, Texas to I. H. and Flora Turney on November 14th, 1925. She went to school at Tulia ISD. She married Lloyd Taliaferro on August 29th, 1948, in Tulia, Texas. She graduated from North Texas in Denton Texas. She worked as a choral director for over 30 years. She began her career in Borger, Texas, but after a year her and Lloyd moved to Arlington, Texas where she began teaching at Ousley Junior High in the 1960's and in 1970 she became the choir director at the new Lamar High School. She continued there for 14 years and ended her career at Swift Elementary before retiring. She was involved for many, many years with Sigma Alpha Iota which is a music fraternity in Arlington, Texas. It was such a pleasure and a true honor for her to be a part of this organization.
Rowena is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents, I H and Flora Turney, her nephew Scott, and nieces Dana and Janice.
Rowena is survived by her daughter, Stefan Anderson and husband Bruce; sister, Elaine Grev and her husband Dennis; grandchildren Maren Pelzel and her husband Mark and John Anderson and his wife Julie; great grandchildren Gage, Barrett, and Cross Anderson and Carson Pelzel; and her nephew Eric Grev.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) in lieu of flowers.

The family of Rowena wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Pastors Donnie Haywood and Daniel Echols, the congregation of The First Methodist Church of Tom Bean, and teachers at Tom Bean Elementary.
