My oldest brother-in-law Michael Jack Brownlee married my sister. They had three children and four grandchildren before he died of cancer at home, and his remains were cremated.

Mike was sent to Viet Nam for several tours while serving in the U.S. Air Force in the late 1960's.

Mike loved motorcycles and cars; salmon fishing and smoking them; and radio-controlled airplane flying.

1st ANNUAL MIKE BROWNLEE MEMORIAL PYLON RACES JUNE 2004 [reprinted with permission]

We had a fine day at the Wenatchee Races today. The weather is beautiful. You should see the wonderful trophy the guys made for the Mike Brownlee Memorial.

The races continue tomorrow and the club will send me pics of the final winner with the trophy. The MBMPR will be held annually for ten years, then once the last plaque has been engraved, it will be sent to the national museum for display.

Two of the guys made the trophy, one made the model of Mike's plane, the "Showdown," for the trophy - the original plane was on display at his services - and the other did the woodwork.

The plaque has a statement they told me Mike made at the start of every race: "We have glow, we have fuel, throttle is up and trims in the middle."

His very good friend Tom Martin bought the original plane and raced it today - in fact, it was in the air when we arrived and David recognized it right away. That was before we knew about the trophy. Nancy was a hit with all the guys because she was so interested in everything and asking questions - always the student!
