Rev. Ronald Calvin Adkins, 89, passed away on April 29, 2016 following a short illness.

Born on October 25, 1926, he was the son of Frank "Pug" and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Foley Adkins.


Ronald took pride in being pastor at Old Grove Chapel, in which he was the founder. For over fifty years, he ministered on both TV and radio, being heard on WWYO, WJLS and WOAY. He also ministered on Living Faith TV out of Abington, VA. In his early years, he saw the vision of being able to spread the gospel worldwide.

When Ronald was home, he enjoyed farming, visiting, working with his cattle, gardening, and sharing joy and laughter with his family.


Ronald was also proud to have served in the US Navy during WWII, where he served on the USS Klondike in the South Pacific.

After his service, Ronald also worked for Virginia Railroad, in coal mining and at a service station.


Preceded in death by his son Lynnie Adkins; his parents; and siblings Cordia Blankenship, Effie Heath, Wanda Adkins, Zida Adkins, Violet Woods, Carless Adkins, Virgil Adkins, Robert Adkins, Geneva Budkewicz, Ward Adkins, Ralph Adkins and Oley Bee Adkins.

Survived by his wife of 72 years, Irene Sparks Adkins; sons, Donald (Susan) Adkins, Greg (Rhonda) Adkins; daughter, Patty Hickman; grandchildren Christopher Adkins, Jared Adkins, Brittany Adkins, Ann Simpson, Jennifer Erwin, Laura Coalson, Summer Buchanan, Adam Hatcher and Jordan Dunlap; and 12 great-grandchildren.


Friends may gather with the family May 2, 2016 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 am, May 3, 2016 at the funeral home, with Rev. Ronnie Miller and Danny Gilfield officiating.
 Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens and will include military honors conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.
