Chester Covel Buck was the son of Ira D. and Charlotte (Moriah) Buck; he was born on January 26, 1885 in Plymouth, Indiana.

He was an employee of Swift and Company in Edmonton, Canada. In January 1916 he enlisted in the 202nd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Forces in Edmonton.

He was deployed overseas in November, 1916, but was returned to Canada about July 1, 1917. He was designated unfit for service due to illness. He died while still in Canadian service on December 7, 1917 at Ponoka Hospital, Ponoka, Alberta, Canada. He was interred in Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth, Indiana.

He died at age 32 years, 10 months, 13 days; his time in service was one year, eleven months.
