MINNIE G. MELCHER
Minnie Gabriner Melcher, of Williamstown, Mass., Doris Day's mother-in-law when the Hollywood actress was married to the late movie producer Matthew Martin Melcher, died Wednesday morning at the North Adams Massachusetts Regional Hospital, where she was taken Oct 18 from the Sweet Brook Nursing Home in Williamstown.
She came to North Adams in 1904, was born in Kletsk, Russia on Sept. 15, 1886, a daughter of Chaim Gabriner and Shifra Saragevitehl. and was married in 1905 to the late Joseph Alter Melcher, a prominent North Adams merchant and cattle dealer.
She was a member and past president of the Sisterhood of the Congregation Beth Israel, and belonged to the Northern Berkshire chapter of Hadassah.
She leaves 4 sons, a daughter, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Services were scheduled this afternoon at Congregational Beth Israel in North Adams, with Rabbi Robert Bronstein officiating.
Burial will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Clarksburg, Mass.
