John A. Aanrud (Johnny One Feather) 77, passed away Tuesday March 6, 2018, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born August 28, 1940 to Clarance and Lorretta Aanrud.
Johnny loved gold panning and worked 20 years at Dakota Rock and Gem. He loved people and made a lot of tourist friends that came back every year to see him. Other jobs he pursued were Moore & Kandaras for over 20 years, working for Stephanie Herseth while she was in Congress; they were good friends, a stuntman in Gunsmoke, How the West Was Won, Rockerville, and Orphan Train; he was a fast draw artist, and rodeos. He survived being hit by a pickup; rolling a truck because the axle rod broke.
He loved doing Native American items, Dream Catcher Beadwork, Leather Tooling, and Purses to sell them to tourists and friends. He had several hobbies; Princess Diana Collection, Seg Shell Collection, a teddy bear collection of which he donated 3,000 to The School of Nursing to give to the children. He made hand carved Elk Handle Knives. He loved Jackson Hole and Cody, WY. He was there several times. He was a pet lover. He loved life and all his friends he met along the way, and they loved him. He was so humorous, and happy. Loved to talk and tell stories about his life.
He served in Vietnam in the Army and received a Purple Heart Medal.
He is survived by 2 sons; a brother and several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
He met L.H. while panning gold in 1981 and married her in 2010. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, and son. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Services will be at Kirk Funeral Home, Wednesday March 28th, at 11 AM with Military honors following at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
