Maurice Louis Berthon, 97, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, died on March 10, 2018. He is survived by his wife of seventy years, sister, daughter, son, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He grew up in Pratt City, Alabama, graduated from Ensley High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He came home from World War II and went to work in the family business, Berthon's Dry Cleaners. He married in 1947 and settled in the West End. He was a member of the Ensley Rotary Club for forty-five years. He hosted several international exchange participants, visited Miami and Zurich on club business, and was club president in 1974. He later moved to the Vestavia Rotary Club and was a Rotarian for a total of sixty-four years with several years of perfect attendance. With his sister and brother, he opened the Berthon's Cleaners' flagship Southside location. Berthon's was a Birmingham institution known for its wedding gown preservation, leather care and fur cleaning/storage. Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. March 12, 2018 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Homewood, Alabama, where he was a member since 1952, and an ordained deacon.
