He was born on February 28, 1942, the son of Martin and Ellen (Petsche) Horstman Sr.
Jim graduated from the Garnavillo High School and later received his Associates Degree from Northeast Iowa Community College.
On July 7, 1962, James was united in marriage with Ruth Bolsinger in Garber. This union blessed them with five children.
For over 20 years, James worked for Mother Hubbard's Convenient Store.
Jim's family was his passion and he cherished all the time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great granddaughter, Alyssa Hillery; brother and sister in law, Martin (Charlene) Horstman Jr.; niece Cynthia Kriesler.
