MANSFIELD William "Bill" C Kanz, 91, of Mansfield, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Mifflin Care Center. He was born May IS, 1916, to Jacob and Katherine Deschner Kanz. He attended Mansfield City Schools and was a member of First Christian Church. Bill loved working with his hands and had a knack for repairing anything and constructing useful items for his home as well as for others. He had a love for fishing, spending time at Lake Erie and taking other fishing trips together with his family. Bill was a member of the Civitan Club and assisted in the construction of wheelchair ramps for numerous people throughout the community. He formerly worked at Tappan Stove Company and retired as foreman of the model shop in 1981 after 48 years of service. He was a member of the Tappan Quarter Century Club, Mansfield Masonic Lodge 35, F.A.M. and Baku Grotto. Surviving are his daughter, Mary Lou (Greg) Navratil of Mansfield; two sons, Doug (Fran) Kanz of West Columbia, Texas, and Paul Kanz of Mansfield; daughter-in-law, Carrie Kanz of Mansfield; four grandsons, Marc Kanz, Jason Kanz, Corey Poth and his fiancee, Jami Thompson, and Jesse Kanz; eight greatgrandchildren; sister, Eva Oswalt; brother, Eugene (Deloras) Kanz; brother-in-law, Carl (Thora) Laubscher; several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many friends who will all remember him as a hard-working, fair and honest man. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lois L Laubscher Kanz on March 14, 2008; parents; brother, Jacob Kanz; and sister, Elizabeth Wamsley. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, conducted by the Rev. Chris Whitehead. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow in Mansfield Cemetery for Bill and his wife, Lois.
