Wichita falls - Barbara Abel of Wichita Falls, TX, passed away February 28, 2018. She was born April 10, 1919 in Centerline, Michigan, to Edward and Mary O'Malley. She served as a Technical Sergeant, in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was discharged in 1945. While stationed in California, she met her husband, Arthur "George" Abel. They wed in August 1947 and were blessed with five children.
Barbara enjoyed traveling, sewing, ceramics, and cake decorating. She taught elementary education. She was active in many church related works. She was a member of the Ladies Society and an Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of the Skies, Sheppard Air Force Base, and served as President of the Northwest Deanery National Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, George, and sons Paul and John. She is survived by her sons Patrick of Wichita Falls, and Edward and his wife Wendy of Corpus Christie; and, daughter Benedicta and her husband Richard Steinberg of Westminster, MD. Barbara has three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Hwy, March 7, 2018 6-8 PM. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM, followed by a vigil service. On March 8, 2018 the family will receive friends from 1 - 1:45 PM in the Sacred Heart Parish Center, 1509 9th Street in Wichita Falls. Funeral liturgy will follow at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rite of Committal to be held at the Hampton Vaughan mausoleum chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Barbara's name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1504 Tenth Street, Wichita Falls, TX 76301.
