Gerald Leon Cline, 73, of Mansfield, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Born June 26, 1944 in Marion, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Belva Cline.

Gerald was a very hard worker, starting work at a very young age of 14 selling spud nuts, newspapers, doing lawn and landscaping work, washing cars and shining shoes. He became a self taught mechanic and worked for Hissongs Bee Line and then went on to work for Getz Road Construction for many years. Always wanting to be working, he became a Junior Deputy Sheriff in 1960. He always worked two jobs until he started working for the Rail Road in 1975, working for Penn Central, Conrail and Norfolk Southern from where he retired in 2007. He loved working or operating heavy equipment and always wanted to do more so the ground men didn’t have to work as hard. Gerald supported his family well and loved the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann (Putman) Cline whom he married on August 31, 1961; four children, Alicia A. Lewis of Mansfield, Freda M. (Eric) Steward of Lucas, Jeff E. (Kris) Cline of Mansfield and Sonya L. (Donald) Duffey of Ontario; grandchildren, Phillip R. (Jess) Lewis, Barbara A. (Corey) Fugitt, Jessica M. Lewis, Stephanie R. (Brandon) Diffenbaugh, Adam J. (Rachel) Steward, Jared L. Steward, Bethany E. (Josh) Moore, Ethan W. Steward, David E. (Cynthia) Cline, Elise N. Robinson, Rachel E. Cline, Hannah M. Cline, Brittany S.C. (Dylan) Owens and Hunter C. Duffey; great grandchildren, Jaelyn, Bryson, Grayson, Patrick, Dakota, Olivia, Layla Grace, William, Joseph, Daniel, Anne Marie, Natalie and an Owens baby on the way; sisters, Loretta Cline and Brenda (Ray) Miller; brother, Bernard (Faye) Cline; and a great friend, Bev Keller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jessie Allen; an infant sister, Freda Cline; a brother, Vern Cline; a brother-in-law, Billy Putman; and his special pet, Benji.
