S/MSgt- WS-11 Gayle S. Hickman. I have closed my blues for the last time. The reaper has been waiting since my birth to Raymond and Virginia (Smith) Horney in Richmond, Indiana on Feb. 16, 1938. To the delight of my family, daughters, Deborah Seckinger, Jeanette Courtney-Cross, Alaina McGowan, sons Mark Lebedin, Mike Langford and deceased Thomas Langford, my surname was changed to Hickman when I was a boy. I thought it fit well. I was raised in a great family that included brother, David Hickman, and sister, Janice (Horney) Eller. I had an awesome life that became even better with my marriage to Imogene Austin Langford in 1968. We watched our blended family grow to 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Spent a couple of years with the Army National Guard, 22 years active duty with the Air Force, two years with Westinghouse, and then another 20 years Civil Service at Eglin AFB. Thanks to the tax payers I traveled the world.

The reaper joined forces with the big C when I reached 54, to hasten my demise, but my wonderful medical team kept them at bay until now. To all my friends I have met along the way, if we should meet again I will be the one with a smile on my face and a sign saying "welcome."
Interment with full military honors will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.

Please know I'm in a better place and I will no longer be in pain. Make it a happy time, Dance in the aisles, laugh and sing along to the music of Roy Orbison. Bring your own beer. Au Revoir.
