Odessa - Eugene Lee Kraft, a longtime Odessa resident, passed away March 24, 2007 at Hospice House. He was born in Wenachie, WA, to John Kraft and Dovie Barger. Gene was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1941. After serving a year, he married Joyce Compton in Bowie Co., TX, in 1942. He served in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Gene worked for Santa Fe Drilling for 25 years, retiring in 1983. After retirement, he found much joy in spending time with his grandchildren and fishing. One of his favorite pass times was taking long walks and gathering aluminum cans to earn fishing money.

Gene was the most loving, patient and fun father and grandfather anyone could have asked for. While our hearts are aching since his passing, we find comfort in knowing that today he is resting in Heaven with Jesus his Savior.

Gene is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Kraft; son, Michael Kraft and his wife, Darlene of Alto, NM; daughters, Sandra Edmonds and husband Gary of Tai Pei, and Taiwan and Janet Willhelm and husband, James Sr. of Odessa; grandchildren, Jason Kraft of Evanston, WY, Jennifer Tycz of Alto, NM, James Willhelm Jr. of Austin and Kelly Culver and husband, Tim of Midland; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Johnny Kraft and wife, Valerie of Chidester, AR and Jimmy Kraft of Riverside, CA; sisters, Blanche Hooper of Camden, AR and Joann Land of Emory, TX. He is also survived by numerous other loving family members.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services will be held at the First Assembly of God Church, 1101 N. Lee, at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 29, with the Reverend Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at the Andrews North Cemetery in Andrews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene's name to Hospice House.
