George A. Wolters, 96, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Appledorn Assisted Living.
A lifelong resident of Holland, George served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II stationed in England. His B-17 was downed on its 13th flight and he was captured and held as a POW in eastern Germany at Stalag Luft IV. He survived what was known as the Black March until liberated by the British and American troops. He returned to Holland where he married Ruby VandeWater and raised his family. George worked as a machinist and die maker, and also served the community as a volunteer fireman for the Holland Fire Department. George was also faithful member of First Reformed Church. He was preceded in death by Ruby, his beloved wife of 57 years.
He is survived by three children Robert Wolters, San Diego CA, Barbara (David) Harris, Scottsdale AZ, and William (Lori) Wolters, Ann Arbor MI, and a sister Joyce (Dave) Meyer of Holland. He was blessed with 5 loving grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 14th, at Dykstra Funeral Home - Mulder Chapel, 188 W. 32nd St, Holland. Rev. Dr. Daniel Gillett will be officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home cemetery.
