John W. Anderson, 98, of Butler, formerly of Washington, Pa., died at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday at Sunnyview Home.
Born on Nov. 25, 1908, in Littleton, Wetzel County, W.Va., he was the son of Daniel Morgan and Martha Kennedy Anderson.
He was a veteran of the Marines, having served in World War II. He enjoyed bowling, horseback riding, and dancing. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Washington and the VFW posts in Canonsburg and Washington.
Surviving are his wife, Olive Wilhelmina Frank Anderson; three daughters, Mrs. John (Joyce) Bowser of Nevada, Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) Green of Butler and Beverly Clark of Texas; two stepdaughters, Carol Matthews of Saxonburg and Mrs. Harold (Teresa) Shirey of Emlenton; a stepson, Donald J. Zanella of Butler; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Violet) Adams of Ithaca, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by a son, grandson, a step-daughter, five brothers, and two sisters.
ANDERSON - Friends of John W. Anderson, who died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Young Funeral Home. There also will be a visitation at the Church of Christ, 700 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, on Monday from 11 a.m. until the noon service with the Rev. Bob Davison officiating.
Interment will be in the Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg, Pa.
