At the time of his death, Wayne had one granddaughter, one grandson, and a great-granddaughter.

Wayne graduated from Dallas High School (Dallas, NC) and later attended Pitt Community College in Greenville, NC.

He was an Army veteran, having served from 1970 until he received an honorable discharge in Nov. 1973. During his time in the Army, he was a tank mechanic and stock supervisor and he received medals for sharpshooting. He was a Private First Class when he left the Army.

His lifelong passion was music. He was an accomplished guitarist who enjoyed nothing more than 'jammin'' with a group-or with ANYone who would 'jam'. His repertoire was extensive, covering rock, country, and especially the blues. His other passion was fishing-any and all kinds of fishing, it didn't matter. Rob & reel, cane pole, fly rod, river bank, ocean, stream, lake, canoe, flat bottom boat, rain or shine or anything in between!

He was also a carpenter, a photographer, and a lover of the North Carolina mountains. He was a good man, a compassionate man, a man who liked to laugh and make everyone around him happy. He struggled for years with his own personal demons and in the end, he beat them and made a good, solid life for himself, a home that was comfortable and welcoming and filled with music and good will. People gravitated to Wayne and he loved it, he was a natural entertainer.

In the last couple years of his life, and especially during his last months, he was cared for, whenever needed, by good friend Mandy and his veteran buddies, and other friends were in and out, always ready to do anything for him. His care at the VA Hospital, which had been ongoing for a while, was exemplary. Mandy said that when the end came, "He was surrounded by good friends and music, it was beautiful. Peaceful." A fitting passage for a beautiful soul.
