GATES, MR. GEORGE, SR., age 73, of Birmingham, died Friday, December 5, 1997. Funeral will be held Saturday, December 13, at 12 noon from St. Matthews Baptist Church with burial in Shadow Lawn Cemetery. Survivors: daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Pigler, Mrs. Margie Hatcher, Mrs. Diane Coleman, Mrs. Loraine Jackson, and Miss Myrna Gates, all of Birmingham; son, Mr. George Gates, Jr. of Birmingham; mother, Mrs. Willie T. Gates of Belleville, Ill.; sisters, Mrs. Ethel Ross, Miss Carolyn Gates, and Mrs. Mattie Fletcher, all of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, Mr. Charlie Gates of Clanton, Mr. Eugene Gates of Killeen, Tex., Mr. Eddie Gates of Atlanta, Ga., Mr. Glen Gates of Belleville, Ill., and Mr. Earnest Trammell of Roanoke; 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
