Anita L. O’Neil, M.D.
1950 - 2018
Anita died swiftly and peacefully on January 8, 2018 in the Beartooth Hospital in Red Lodge, Montana. She had had angiosarcoma for 8 years. Until very recently she enjoyed a superb quality of life defying all the odds of this grim affliction. Over the Christmas holiday she was able to be with all of her family in her daughter Lauren’s beautiful family home in Washington, D.C..
Anita is survived by Gregory-John her husband of 46 years, Lauren and Andrew Giordano of D.C., Jay J. O’Neil of Dallas, TX, and Sean D. and Ashley O’Neil of Austin Texas. Their children 5 year old Gavin and 2 year old Miles were ‘Gamma’s’ special favorites.
Anita was raised in Helena, MT. where she met Gregg on the first day of college. She was a high honors graduate of Carroll College ’72 and Baylor College of Medicine ’76 (Summa cum Laude and AOA).
Anita and Gregg remained in Texas after completing their residencies and were anesthesiologists in Houston for 30 years. They always maintained their Montana roots. Their high Beartooth Mountains Sheep Mountain Ranch in Luther, MT has been a family gathering place for years. Anita particularly enjoyed her 1904 historic home in Red Lodge. She was active on the Board of the Beartooth Hospital and in Sisters on the Fly aka ‘drinkers on the sly’. Gregg would like to receive photos of them actually fly fishing.
She leaves five dear siblings and scores of friends and cousins to celebrate the courage and example of her life. The family will convene a private interment in their family plot in the serene Glenwood Cemetery located in downtown Houston, Texas.
