August 8, 1944 – March 13, 2017 “In Loving Memory”
Loyd “Corkey” H Urmson Jr., passed peacefully at home Monday, March 13th, 2017 from pancreatic cancer.
Corkey was born to Loyd H Urmson Sr., “Pappy”, and Marie Myers on August 8, 1944. As a kid, he was self-taught on the guitar and other various musical instruments, but as a teen, Corkey was stricken with polio and told by doctors he would never walk, hunt or fish again but in no time, he was up and running with his friends as he was not one to just give up. As his love for music drove him, he joined various bands perfecting his musical talent fulfilling his dream of being a musical entertainer, which he did throughout his life, performing all over the western United States, including Alaska.
Being a true music man, he worked as a cook to also attain ‘Chef’ status in Southern California. In 1975 he brought his family to Susanville to work at Californian Correctional Facility as a Cook Supervisor, retiring from CCC Corkey continued to play music and enjoying his loving family. Later in life he would play music at Susanville First Baptist church.
