Ben had a long and distinguished career with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department as a patrolman, dispatcher and traffic accident investigator. He was the recipient of a number of awards as "Officer of the Month." Before that, from the early to mid-1950s, he served as deputy sheriff - or undersheriff - with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in Lawrence, Kansas. He resigned from that office on October 31, 1957 to join the Kansas City Police Department.

After his retirement from the Kansas City Police Department, he became an instructor in 1984 for the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Hutchinson, Kansas, finally retiring after 9 years in January of 1994. The KLETC is associated with the University of Kansas.

Benjamin and Joyce Way, Hereford, Ariz., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 3 [2002].

Benjamin Way and Joyce Snow met at the Vinland [Kansas] Fair and were married April 3, 1952, in Overland Park [Kansas].

Ben began his police career as a Douglas County [Ks.] deputy sheriff in Lawrence. He retired from the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department and from the Kansas City, Mo., National Guard. He also was a teacher at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center near Hutchinson [Ks.].

Joyce worked at Westport High School [Kansas City, Mo., on the cafeteria staff] in the 1960s and then worked and retired from the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department as a switchboard operator.

The couple have one daughter, April Way, Eudora [Ks.].
