At age 16, Jacob Kip was a clerk in the Provincial Secretary's Office at New Amsterdam, and in Dec 1649 was acting as clerk for Dir-Gen. Stuyvesant's Council. On 27 Jun 1653 he was appointed first Secretary of the Court of Burgomaster's and Schepens in New Amsterdam. He resigned from the office on 12 Jun 1657 and began his trade of brewing, which he combined with his business of general trading (i.e., he was a storekeeper). On 29 Nov 1655 he was appointed Vendue Master to the Court of Orphan Masters. He was a member of the board of Schepens in 1659, 1662, 1665, 1673, and president of the board in 1674. He was again chosen Schepen in 1665 after the English takeover. He was again chosen Schepen on 17 Aug 1673 after the Dutch (short-lived) re-conquest of New York/New Netherlands (the territory was ceded back to England in Feb. 1674).

Jacob Hendricksz Kip was born on 16 May 1631.
He was baptized on 25 May 1631 at Amsterdam, Noord Holland, Netherlands.
At age 16, Jacob Kip was a clerk in the Provincial Secretary's Office at New Amsterdam, and in Dec 1649 was acting as clerk for Dir-Gen. Stuyvesant's Council. On 27 Jun 1653 he was appointed first Secretary of the Court of Burgomaster's and Schepens in New Amsterdam. He resigned from the office on 12 Jun 1657 and began his trade of brewing, which he combined with his business of general trading (i.e., he was a storekeeper). On 29 Nov 1655 he was appointed Vendue Master to the Court of Orphan Masters. He was a member of the board of Schepens in 1659, 1662, 1665, 1673, and president of the board in 1674. He was again chosen Schepen in 1665 after the English takeover. He was again chosen Schepen on 17 Aug 1673 after the Dutch (short-lived) re-conquest of New York/New Netherlands (the territory was ceded back to England in Feb. 1674).
