Betty Baldauf, 82, passed away July 31 in St. Vincent Hospice. She was born to the late Louis and Alice Baker on July 18, 1924. During World War II, she was employed at the U.S. Army Ordnance Depot in Charlestown, sewing artillery powder bags. Betty received a citation and medal from President Roosevelt for her service. She was also employed by Fred Williams, Jr. for over 40 years.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Baldauf. She is survived by two sons, Bill Nichols (Deborah) of Hardinsburg, IN, and Jim Nichols (Janet) of Macomb, MI; four grandsons, Jeremy, Daniel, Kyle and Christian Nichols; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nola Andres of Anchorage, AK, Grace Rea (Ralph) of Indianapolis, and Ruth Weller (Bob) also of Indianapolis, whom devoted hundreds of hours as her primary caregiver during her illness.
