Virginia Chalk Sanders Cullum passed away at the age of 91 on Monday, February 14, 2005, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born in Higden, Arkansas, on March 23, 1913. She graduated from Heber Springs High School in 1933, then went on to attend nursing school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, graduating in 1936. During her forty year career as a registered nurse, she worked in both John Gaston and St. Joseph's Hospitals, then finished her last twenty years of her career with the Visiting Nurses Association of Memphis. Upon retiring in 1976, she returned home to Higden, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Steve Chalk and Sada Hammond Chalk of Higden, Arkansas; her two sisters, Bessie Chalk Gadberry and Edna Chalk Rickert, and one brother, Willie Chalk, all of Higden, Arkansas; two husbands, Vernon Ezekiel Sanders of Grand Junction, Tennessee, and Roy W. Cullum of Higden, Arkansas. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette S. Jennings of Memphis, Tennessee, and Doris S. Nipp of Greers Ferry; Arkansas; four grandchildren, Yvette J. Boyles of Lakeland, Tennessee, Lauren J. Placencia of Huntington, Tennessee, Dana T. Carek of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Brooke J. Toelle of Omaha, Nebraska. She was also survived by eight great grandchildren, Megan Placencia, Austin Boyles, Aaron Boyles, Addison Boyles, Haden Carek, Conner Toelle, Ryan Christian, and Reagan Toelle.

Visitation will be held at West Side Baptist Church in Greers Ferry, Arkansas, at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, February 17, with funeral services on Friday, Feb. 18, at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Gideons International, P. O. Box 811, Heber Springs, AR 72543. Arrangements: Olmstead Funeral Home, Heber Springs.
