Julia Abrahamowicz (nee Zalenski), age 100, passed away Thursday, November 09, 2017 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

Born March 24, 1917 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Stanley and Mary (nee Brulinski) Zalenski. She moved with her family at the age of 2 to LaGrange, Ohio where she lived until moving to Lorain in 1940.

Julia was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Lorain and the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lorain, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society, Ladies Guild and volunteered her time with different activities and events at the church.

Julia was a homemaker and did worked a few years at Mason Toys on Broadway in Lorain during the 1950’s. She loved to travel and dance and she enjoyed her flower garden, especially her rose garden.

Surviving is her son, Jan Abrahamowicz (Midge Stafford) of Amherst; a daughter, Carol Butchko (John Stafford) of Oberlin; 4 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John in 2006; brothers, Anthony Zalenski, Frank Zalenski and Walter Zalenski; and sisters, Stella Janiska, Mary Kalisz and Wanda Zalenski.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of mass at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain. Rev. Robert J. Glepko, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
The Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements.
