He was one of the founding members of the Southbury Athletic Association and helped start the first men's softball league in Southbury. He always enjoyed sports and continued his involvement through his children as a coach. Ed worked with Southbury Parks and Recreation in promoting youth sports. He was one of the founders of the Southbury Soccer Club and served as president in 1988. He was a certified referee for Connecticut Junior Soccer, held a Federation Certification for high school referee, and was a member of the Western Connecticut Soccer Officials Association.

He last served on the building committee for the new Southbury Public Library. He was also involved in the United Church of Christ of Southbury. He served on their Building and Grounds Committee, giving his expertise to many of their projects over the years.
Along with carrying on the Kamerzel name, he married into the Keilty family and became a beloved and loving uncle, brotherin- law and son-in-law.
