Donald John Abeyta
March 14, 1936 - October 29, 2017
Resident of Pinole, California.

Don was born and raised in San Francisco. He graduated from Mission High School.

After serving in the U. S. Army, he started working as an apprentice plumber in Contra Costa County. He became a journeyman and worked on many construction projects throughout the county. Don started working for the West Contra Costa Unified School District in 1967 and remained there until he retired.

Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rita; devoted children Gary (Aileen) of Concord, Trace Schade (Jeff) of Benicia, and Bud of Pinole; and grandchildren Erin and Joel Schade and Colbi Dones (Eva). He is also survived by his brothers Ronald of San Francisco and Gilbert (Maria) of Concord; sister Barbara Mattioda of Citrus Heights; sister-in-law Erma Tonna; nephews Gregory Abeyta and Robert (Maria) Tonna; niece Tina Tonna; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Lee and Mary Abeyta.

We would like to express our thanks to the care takers at the Able Care Home in Concord and to the nurses and staff at Hope Hospice for their outstanding care, kindness, and devotion to Don during his illness. Don was interred at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on November 26, 2017. Private family services were held. Memorial contributions may be made in Don's memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or to your favorite charity. Wilson & Kratzer Mortuary.
