On 18 Aug 2012 Find A Grave contributor Betty Walker provided the following information:

TAYLOR CITY CEMETERY TAYLOR TX

John R. Steadman was the son of George U. Steadman and Margaret "Maggie" Matilda McCormick.

John was born in St Charles Arkansas and died in Travis Co. TX in a train wreck.

John was a train engineer. His train derailed in South Austin over turning killing him. There is a write up about the wreck and John's death in the Austin Daily Statesman 5 Nov 1899.

John married Emily "Emma" Amelia Hemphill 16 April 1891 in Williamson Co. TX They had 3 children:Robert J. Steadmam (1891-1941), Mary B. Steadman(Nov 1896-?)and George H. Steadman (1898-?).

Emma was a school teacher and the daughter of Jacob Bird Hemphill, Sr (1844-1935)and Emily Victoria Jernigan (1843-1921)

Emma had a brother, Sanford Walter Hemphill that also was a train engineer that died 26 Aug 1919 in Bassett TX when his train overturned.

Documents show that Emma gave the space next to John's grave to the cemetery for the permanent up-keep of John's grave.
