She was born on November 5, 1928, in Davidson County, NC, to Claude Forest Blake and Ella Mae Deaton Blake. She was the owner and operator of Shoe Mart in Lexington and she retired from Belk of Lexington. She was a faithful member of Rich Fork Baptist Church, the Victory Class, and the senior group, The Sunshine Gang. She loved working in her flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Buckner, Jr. whom she married on June 20, 1946; three brothers, Bill, Neal, and Darrell Blake; and sister-in-law, Patsy Blake.
Surviving are her sons, John Wesley Buckner, III, and wife Wanda of Lexington, and Shawn Buckner and wife Carolyn of Columbia, SC; daughter, Linda Bowers and friend Rocky of Thomasville; sisters, Marlene (Pinky) Brower and husband Cliff and Doris Ring, all of Thomasville; brother, Ted Blake and wife Linda of Troy, NC; grandchildren, John Wesley Buckner, IV, Terrell Bowers, Michael Bowers, and Sam Haney; great-grandchildren, John Wesley Buckner, V, Quentin Bowers and Laura Bowers; sisters-in-law, Martha Blake and Helen Blake, both of Thomasville; many nieces and nephews; and faithful caretaker, Brooke Henderson.
Her funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Rich Fork Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Bowers officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
