Jeanette Gayle Abel, 66, passed away Monday, Sept. 25 surrounded by her family. Born Feb. 7, 1951 in Odessa, Jeanette was one of five daughters born to Charles and Mary Francis Nelson.

She married Charles Abel of San Angelo Nov. 25,1970 and they had two daughters, Laurie and Heather.

Jeanette embarked on a 35-year career teaching geography, social studies, and Texas history in junior high schools, and completed a masters degree in education from Stephen F. Austin State University while actively teaching.

The latter half of her career was spent at Eagle Lake Middle School and then Brazos Middle School in Wallis-Orchard.

The latter half of her career was spent at Eagle Lake Middle School and then Brazos Middle School in Wallis-Orchard.

Jeanette was quick to offer her time sponsoring student groups at her schools, including student council, cheerleading, and UIL academic competitions. Jeanette was a mentor and tutor to her students, and was quick to give school supplies, advice, and even a ride home to any student in need.

In addition to teaching, she was a trained EMT for Colorado County and spent many long hours working with the ambulance corps, as service to others always guided Jeanette's life.

Upon retirement from teaching, Jeanette and her husband Charles traveled the world, seeing all of the places she had taught about during her career, 'but she still devoted time to assisting others.

Post retirement, she volunteered at the Prairie Edge Museum in Eagle Lake.

Jeanette was devoted to her loving family and is survived by her husband Charles, daughters and sons-in-law Laurie and Kevin Startz and Heather and Allen Stilwell; four grandchildren, Ryan, Benjamin, Amelia and Garrett; sisters, Katie Evans and Twila Carson, and many nieces and nephews.
