He was born March 13, 1933 in Barton County, Missouri to Leonard and Gladys (Patterson) Gastel.
He was a farmer and an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Richard was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Oakton United Methodist Church.
Richard was united in marriage to Ellen Morris Rives on July 12, 2002. She survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Keith Gastel, Gary Gastel, and Larry Gastel.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 2:00 P.M.. at the Oakton United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Monday. October 9, 2017 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Weng Funeral Chapel.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lamar, MO.. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avalon Hospice, or Oakton United Methodist Church Operation Christmas Child.
