Son of Jean-Nicolas Panet and Marie-Madeleine-Francoise Foucher. He was born and baptised in the parish of St-Germain-L'Auxerrois in Paris, France. He had 7 brothers and sisters, including Jean-Claude Panet who also came to New France and settled in Quebec City.

At 23, he married Marie-Ange Treffle (19yo) at Notre-Dame de Quebec on 2 October 1754.

Pierre was a legal practitioner (as public notary and lawyer), and eventually judge, in Montreal.

He died aged 73 and was buried on 17 June 1804.
