Dan High, 91, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at his residence in Bradenton Florida. He was born on May 28,1926 in Wando, S.C., to Ina Lee Cox High and Bruce C. High Sr. He moved to Crawfordville in 1935 where he attended Crawfordville High School, graduating in 1943 at age 16. Upon turning 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy during WW II.

After the war, he came home and attended Florida State University where he met and later married his first wife Elizabeth Ann McKinney. After working for Seaboard Coastline RR for a brief time he went to work for the Florida State Road Department which later became FDOT. He was employed there for 37 years and retired as District Maintenance Engineer in 1983. He immediately went to work at a private engineering firm as the Project and Site Manager for Construction of the new Sunshine Skyway. He also managed the construction and expansion of the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport and The Newest Bridge over Tavernier Creek in the Florida Keys.
More importantly he was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was eternally committed to family.

He leaves behind one brother: James M. High (Joanne); children: Daniel P. High Jr. (Joanne), Juliann Campbell (Arch), Robert L. High (Gail), William J. High (Nancy) and Ina Joyce Art (Greg); Stepsons: Timothy Brady and Bob Brady; Stepdaughter: Marsha as well as 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his mother and father and first wife, Elizabeth Ann McKinney High; second wife, Lori Fontaine High; and third wife, Ruth McCallister High; brothers: Asa D. High, Bruce C. High Jr., and Tommy Joe as well as his sisters, Josie Lee Daniel and Olivia MacRostie.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Bevis Funeral home, Harvey- Young Chapel, 3106 Crawfordville Highway and services on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. also at that location. Burial will follow at Whiddon Lake Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fl. 33607, Attn: Donation Department RE: Daniel P High.
