-------------

My mother, Ms. Mary Jane (Lewis) Cherry of 44 Woodhaven Street passed away quietly, Monday September 11, 2017 at Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury, New Haven county, Connecticut, USA.

My mother was born "Mary Jane Lewis" on Saturday June 26, 1943 in Waterbury, Connecticut and daughter to the late Geraldine Betty Lewis, also of Connecticut. She was the maternal grandchild of Fletcher Frank Lewis (of North Carolina) and Bertha M (Dubois) Lewis (of Connecticut).

Mary Jane Lewis was educated in the Waterbury School System where she attended Wilby High School. She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her passing. For several years she had been employed by Uniroyal, Urban Renewal and New Departure Hyatt. She then ended her working career retiring from GM after many years of service. After retiring she would spend her days being a caregiver with the New Opportunities until her death. She was an avid sports fan enjoying basketball, volleyball and University of Connecticut basketball.

Mary Jane enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, (me) Jacqueline Cullins of Elizabeth City, NC and Gail Byars of Waterbury; five granddaughters: Darcy, Jessica , Gayle , Karyn and Jacklyn; one grandson, nine great grandchildren, one niece, one uncle: Edward Lewis of Waterbury, a favorite cousin Keith Trotman of NC and a host of friends. She is predeceased by her brother, William A Lewis and a nephew Cyrus_Lewis_b.1995_-_d.2017,.

Mary Jane (Lewis) Cherry was interred in the New Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA.

A LIFE REMEMBERED:
In Loving Memory of Mary Jane Cherry
6/26/1943 to 9/11/2017
The Chain
We knew little that morning
That God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
That day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
Your love is still our guide;
And though we we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again.
