Jose was born and raised in Wichita and lived there all of his life, until he enlisted in the Marines 10 August 1966, at the Kansas City Recruiting Office in MO.
When he arrived in Vietnam, Jose was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Jose was riding in the back of a truck when the truck overturned 3 kilometers south southwest of the An Hoa Airfield in the vicinity of Danang. Jose and another Marine died during the accident.
Jose died as a result of intracranial trauma, when the vehicle he was riding on overturned while returning to camp from a convoy run.
Jose was single and served his country for 1 year, 1 month and 21 days and was KIA #16,662.

He was 20 years, 4 months and 27 days old.
Survived by his parents, Circilo and Vergie M Acosta of 2245 South Washington, Wichita, Kansas.
