Jean Abrusley
May 13, 1933 - July 30, 2017

Funeral services for Mrs. Jean Meredith Abrusley will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oakdale with Father Jenesh Joseph officiating.

Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Jean, age, 84, entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at her residence with her loving family by her side. To her family and friends she will always be remembered as a devoted and loving matriarch with a feisty, yet good, sense of humor.

She was a loving mother, wife and nana. She was born on May 13, 1933 in Edinburgh, Scotland to the union of Michael and Jean Hogg Meredith. After losing her mother at the age of sixteen Jean became the backbone of her family. She carried that strength and maternal instinct with her throughout her life.

She was the stitching that held together the patches of her family quilt. If you would ask Jean, she would have told you that her greatest accomplishment and gratification was her family. She loved holidays and family get-togethers. Any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.

Jean met her husband, Joseph G. Abrusley, Jr. while he was stationed overseas in England. They quickly fell in love and were married on March 11, 1957. She always claimed she fell in love with him because “ he never missed church”. She moved to the United States shortly after and never left Joe’s side. She enjoyed taking care of him and often said that she wanted to be all things to her husband and children.

She was known for her strength, dedication to her faith and devotion to her family. She loved to travel to Scotland and Las Vegas and venture on any shopping trip and could always be found at Joe’s side. She took pleasure in having all eight grandchildren under one roof and always had a story to tell about one of them.

She is preceded in death by her cherished husband, Joseph G. Abrusley, Jr.; her beloved son, Tommy M. Abrusley; her parents, Michael and Jean Meredith; her sisters, Peggy McMahon and Chrissy Lynch; her brother, Billy Meredith and her close friend, Rebecca Evins.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Deborah Abrusley Vidrine and Judge Judi F. Abrusley; daughter-in-law, Elycia Abrusley Gravel; eight grandchildren, Meredith Abrusley Guillory and her husband, Michael, Erin Abrusley Ingo and her hisband, Corey, Jim Vidrine, Brooke Abrusley, Michael Joe Vidrine and his fiance’, Presley Mowad, Kristen Abrusley, David Vidrine and Ashley Abrusley; six great grandchildren, Harper Lee Guillory, Hadley Jo Guillory, Kerklyn McGee, Ava Ingo, Kamryn and Kyndal Vidrine and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers honored to serve include Michael Joe Vidrine, David Vidrine, Randy Fox, Michael Guillory, Jack Karam and Robbie Abrusley.

Visitation will be held at Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale, of Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will reopen on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. until time of departure for the church.

In lieu of flowers donation can be made to her favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers, Modena Lacaze, Betty Doyle, Belinda Newhouse, Michelle Ford and Annie Garlington. Also, Brighton Bridge Hospice, especially Cheryl, Carrie and Christy.
