Ellen was born in Michigan. She was described by a friend as a good hard working woman, died of pneumonia. Since there were no social agencies in those days to care for the children who were left orphans, the 7 children were taken by people in the community. All except Maud, were well treated and all turned out well. General characteristics might be said to be: kind, gentle, hard working, good natured, generous and unassuming. She is buried in a small cemetery at Marksham, NY, behind the school house residence on School Stre.
Her brother, Frank, bought the homestead and lived there until his death in 1938. His widow continued to live there for many years. It was sold in 1967.
