SILVA, Mrs. Elena (Helen) Passed away peacefully in her sleep at Sunnyside Home on Sunday, July 23, 2017. Elena, aged 87 years, wife to the late Alfonso, mother to Claudio Alfonso and Constanza Helen (Laurie), and cousin, sister-in-law, and aunt to many loving family (Teeter/Poljak, Guzman, and Vargas) in the USA and Colombia. Elena was born in Bogota Colombia in 1929. She moved to Kitchener with her husband and young children to join her parents Joszef Riesz (Szarca, Yugoslavia) and Barbara Bartel (Veliki Becskerec, Yugoslavia). A member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Elena worked at Mutual Life (later Clarica) and retired in 1991. She formed lasting relationships with friends in Colombia and Canada, and continued to make friends at Cider Mill, Sunnyside in her final years. Elena was devoted and playful. No-one made chicken soup or potato salad like her. She was generous in her support of charities, loved animals, had an artistic flair, enjoyed reading poetry and literature, and possessed an openness of spirit that allowed her to be touched by life. Mami, duerme con los angelitos; siempre estaran a tu lado. We will miss you dearly. Interment of Elena's and Alfonso's ashes at Woodland Cemetery, 119 Arlington Blvd., Kitchener, 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 28th. Friends are welcome to join the family.
