Giuseppe Berte was born in Casola, Parma, Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Italy on May 3, 1888 to Paolo Berte and Maria Steffanni, according to the death certificate (and death record) for his brother Dino, and marriage record of his sister Ermalinda.

Sometime before September 1912, he marries Marietta (Marie) LanFranchi, possibly in Parma. That month Giuseppe comes on the La Savoie, arriving in New York City, then heading to Barre, Vermont where he would be a stone cutter for years. At that time, Maria LanFranchi was living in Lesignano de Bagni. Sometime between 1913 and 1915, however, she begins living in Barre, with Guiseppe. She has at least three children with him:
- Ketri Berte (b. 1913) (1st child)
- Lina Maria Nita Berte (b. 1915) (2nd child)
- Ancilla Francesca Ermelinda Berte (b 1918) (3rd child)

By 1916, Dino is working as part of the Chioldi Granite company and Giuseppe is working as part of Kelly Brothers, both as employees. In 1916, Giuseppe was a bearer for his sister Ermalinda Berte after her death, as was his brother Dino. The following year, he said he was living in Barre, Vermont with his wife and two children and that he needed to stay there for "family support" rather than fight in Europe, previously fighting in the Italian military. He is working in a Chioldi business as a granite cutter.

In 1919, Giuseppe went back to Parma, part of an extended stay there, possibly with his daughter Ancilla. By May 1921, Giuseppe went to Wilmerding, then returned to Barre. Five years later, in 1926, Giuseppe dies. He seems to have a funeral in Berceto, Italy, although he likely died in Barre. While is death notice has "Berceto" at the bottom, I think he died there, or at least his funeral was there.

Maria lives for many more years. In 1953, she would visit her family in Casola. 10 years later, on March 8, 1963, she would die, likely in Italy.
