Byron Hoyt Scott, Sr., age 86, a long time resident of Big Rock, IL, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2006 at the Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, IL. He was born on May 29, 1920 in Aurora, IL, the son of Byron R. and Helen E. (Hoyt) Scott.

Byron was united in marriage on December 26, 1948 to the former Roberta Ann James Wiggin and they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this week. He attended the Big Rock Grade School and graduated from the Big Rock High School. Byron proudly served his country, with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was a member of the English Congregational United Church of Christ in Big Rock, IL. Byron spent his life as a farmer on the family farm in Big Rock, IL. He truly loved that land and the animals that they raised on it. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and led a simple, but fulfilled life. Byron and Roberta always looked forward to spending their winters in Florida after he retired from farming. Mr. Scott was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Shabbona, IL, the Big Rock Lion's Club and the "Hit and Miss" Supper Club. He enjoyed spending time with his children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Byron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta A. Scott of Big Rock, IL; his daughter, Ronda (Greg) Beels of Big Rock, IL; his son, Byron (Tree) Scott, Jr. of Big Rock, IL; his grandchildren, Beth (David) Kersten of Mooresville, SC, Lynn Sommers of Sugar Grove, IL, Lorrie (Mike) Dugan of Sugar Grove, IL, Robyn (Leigh) Castle of Ludowici, GA and Katie Scott of Ludowici, GA; his great-grandchildren, Kristen and Kaitlin Petschke of Hinckley, IL, Jamie, Lauren and April Woodrick of Yorkville, IL, Ben and Ethan Sommers of Sugar Grove, IL, Michelle and Mallory Dugan of Sugar Grove, IL and Michelle, Jenifer, Lindsey and Austin, all of Big Rock, IL; his brother, Burton (Lois) Scott of Big Rock, IL; his sister, Marilyn (Royce) Thompson of DeKalb, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Helen Scott; his daughter, Bonnie Woodrick; and his grandson, Brad Woodrick.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the Nash-Nelson Funeral Home, 141 N. Maple St., in Hinckley, IL with Rev. Dr. Byron G. Henn officiating. Interment will follow in the West Big Rock Cemetery in Big Rock, IL. Friends may visit from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Nash-Nelson Funeral Home in Hinckley, IL with a Masonic Service to be held at 7:30 PM.
