Hugh Allan was born on Tuesday; May 20, 1913 in Numa; Appanoose County, Iowa and was a Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa resident since 1931 with the exception of years from 1965 until 1986 in Knoxville; Knox County, Tennessee. He worked in the sales and service of Caterpillar heavy equipment in both Tennessee and Iowa. He was a long-time member and elder of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, but at the time of his death was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Hugh Allan, 93, passed away on Sunday; February 25, 2007, in his home at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are two daughters, Mary Jo (Randy) Bracken of West Des Moines and Jean (Dick) Preston of Omaha, NE; son, Bob (Nancy) Allan of Hampstead, NC; five grandsons, Mike (Jill) Bracken, Jon DeHaai, Brian (Lisa) Allan, Brandon Allan, and Matt Allan; two granddaughters, Shanna (Derek) Zeman and Sally (Mike) Derkenne; and sixteen great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Dorothy Allen Allan; son, William Allan; granddaughter, Tonya Bracken; and grandson, Jeff DeHaai. May they rest in peace. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the Scottish Rite Park Penthouse where the family will receive friends following the service. A private family burial service was conducted at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Scottish Rite Park Good Brotherhood Fund or the Highland Park or Westminster Presbyterian Churches.
