He was born in Pineville, Louisiana on June 15, 1940, and was a man of 77 years.
His childhood was spent in central Louisiana, and for the last 30 years of his life was a resident of Panama, Oklahoma. Barry lived a life of service and was honored to serve, first as a member of the United States Air Force, then as a member of the United States Navy from which he retired. For a number of years he was a police officer in several communities in eastern Oklahoma and retired as an Investigator for the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office.
He was preceded in death by parents Annie Decell Ammons and John Lee Ammons of Louisiana, and brothers J N Bryant of Ball, Louisiana, and John Loyd Ammons of Niceville, Florida.
Barry is survived by: wife Roswitha "Rosie" Ammons of Panama, OK; Sons, Barry Ammons, Jr of Phoenix, AZ, and Darwin Ammons of Germany; Sister, Dorothy Gibson of Tioga, LA; Brothers Jerry Ammons of Panama, OK and Rodney Ammons and wife Pam of Shreveport, LA; Extended family members T.J. Bass and wife Krissy of Orange County, CA, Stephen Bass of Savannah, GA and Jonathan Bass and wife Cheyenne of Calhoun, GA. Additionally, Barry was loved, and will be missed, by a cloud of Nephews, Nieces, Cousins, and Dear Friends.
Services with Military Honors for Mr. Ammons will be held 10:00 a.m. on June 27, 2017, at the U.S. National Cemetery 522 S 6th St Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Lewis-Roberts Funeral Chapel. Reception will be held in honor of Barry at 1220 North Kentucky Panama, OK by Solid Rock Church immediately following the service
