Wife of Ebenezer Houghton Phinney.
Medina Co. Gazette, Medina, Ohio 9 Feb 1893
Mrs. E. H. Phinney, who has been in poor health for several years, died Sunday morning, aged 49 years. She has been failing for several months, from a complication of diseases, the most prominent being Brights disease, accompanied by a severe cough and heart trouble. Saturday night she retired as usual, and to all appearance rested well, her husband administering medicine several times during the nigh and no thought of her being so near death's coor. Sunday morning about 5 o'clock he was awaked by a gurgling sound in her throat, and placing his hand on her brow, said, "Mary are you worse?" He received no answer. Mary was dead; her pure spirit had taken flight to realms of eternal bliss, and he was grief stricken and companionless. A little 8 years old daughter is left without a mother to guide her through life's dark mazes, an aged and doting father and two sisters are deprived of the society of one they loved dearer than life, and the community of a noble Christian woman. Funeral was conducted by Rev. Baird of York, her former pastor, and was held in the Cong'l church. The remains were laid to rest in the south cemetery, beside loved ones gone before. She was a consistent member of the Cong'l church of Whittlesey.

At the age of sixteen years she united with the Disciple church of Warren and was a consistent member of the same until 1864, when she moved with her parents to Lafayette, and there united with the Disciple church of which she remained a faithful member up to five years ago, when she and her husband united with the Congregational church at Whittlesey. She was united in wedlock with Eben H. Phinney January 3, 1883. There was born to them one daughter who is now eight years old. She is gone, and her many relatives and friends who are left behind for a little longer sojourn her have the best assurance that all is well with her.
