Mr. McClure was married to Viola Grace McCormick on November 24, 1938 in Roanoke, Virginia; she was the daughter of George F. McCormick [FAG #20297290] and Mamie Hale [FAG #122253915]

In 1956, Mr. McClure was honored as Roanoke's "Father of the Year" for his Boy Scout work. He received the same recognition in 1954.
He also had won the Silver Beaver award, Scouting's highest honor to volunteers, and the Scout master's Key. He took boys to two national Jamborees-the one at Valley Forge and the one in California.

He was a deacon at Northminister Presbyterian Church, which sponsored Boy Scout Troop No. 26 for which he was a leader for many years. His leadership was to such a degree of efficiency that Scout leaders call his troop, without reservation, "One of the three finest troops in Roanoke." A friend said, "he has devoted almost every waking moment to the Boy Scouts."

Mr. McClure grew up and attended schools in Roanoke, finishing two years at National Business College in 1938. He worked first for A & P stores, then for Merita Bakery. In 1941, he became an employee of Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. and became a service foreman.

During World War II. Mr. McClure served for one year in the U. S. Navy.
