House Fire Claims 4th Young Victim
Services will be a 11 am today in Jerusalem Baptist Church for Kim A. Abernathy, 8, of 453 Taber Street who died at 11:19 pm Thursday in Lutheran Hospital as a result of a fire in her home that also caused the death of her brothers, Tony and Rodney Stroud, and her sister, Gail Stroud. All four were the children of Jesse and Jean Stroud and was taken from their home Sunday night along with their grandmother, Gertrude Davis and another resident, Moses Leather. An electrical short circuit in an overloaded extension cord was determined to have caused the fire. Other survivors include a brother, Mitchell Abernathy and a sister, Gwendolyn, both of Fort Wayne; three step-brothers, Timothy, Jesse Jr., and Aaron Abernathy, all of Fort Wayne; and two step-sisters, Marsha Abernathy of Fort Wayne and Anita Wallace of Atlanta, Georgia. Services for all four children will be at 11 am in the church. Arrangements were by Micheaux Funeral Home.
