***Charles S. Brown is Not the biological father of John Milton Little Brown. John Milton was the only son of Charles' 3rd wife Nancy Elizabeth Little.

This memorial is in honor of a true pioneer who came as a young man with a young wife from a far away land to build a home in the wilderness and raise a family.

My GG-Grandfather Charles S. Brown was born in Clones, Monaghan County, Ireland, where he grew to manhood and married Jane Kirk Feb.7,1833 in Clones, Monaghan County, Ireland. They crossed the Atlantic, landing in Quebec, Canada, and coming into the States made their way west of the Allegheny mountains in Pennsylvania, first locating in Redbank Township, Clarion County, where he became the owner of fifty acres of land in what was then a wilderness. After making a number of improvements on that place he bought and moved to another farm in Clarion county, then moving to Jefferson County, Pa. where he farmed for three years.

From there he moved to Ohio, where he again resided for three years. Returning to Pennsylvania he farmed in Clarion County for a short period. He then bought a farm in Jefferson County until he located in North Mahoning Township, Indiana County farming there for the next twenty years. At the end of that time he sold out and located in Rayne township, Indiana county, where he spent the remainder of his life, continuing to farm throughout his active years. He died there Oct. 24, 1891.

Charles was married 3 times. His first wife Jane Kirk died abt.1846 leaving him with 6 children: Elizabeth Ann, Mary Alice, William Joseph, John Alexander, Margaret Jane and Martha Malinda.

He then married Elizabeth Thomas in abt. 1847 and had 4 more children: (2 died in infancy) Nancy Josephine (Adam Black) and Susan (John Luther Stear). Elizabeth died in 1864.

Charles remarried a third time after 1864 to Nancy E. Little, there were no children. Nancy had a son, John Milton Little. To date there is no proof he was adopted by Charles.

Charles is laid to rest with Nancy E. Little in Ruffner/Dunkard Cemetery at Onberg/Tanoma Roads in Rayne Township, Indiana County, Pa.

1850 US Census shows a birthdate of 1811, grave marker would suggest a birth year of 1813.
