Nan L. Sarb, 49, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2007, after a two-year battle with breast cancer.

Nan was born on January 19, 1958, in Washington, D.C., to J. William (Bill) and Saundra (Sunny) Kerpelman.

Nan graduated from Peary High School, Rockville, Maryland, in 1976. As a young girl she dreamed of being a nurse and graduated from Frederick Community College, Frederick, Maryland, in 1992 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked in various nursing positions and found a professional home at the Everett Clinic where she taught early child birth classes and worked in the Snohomish Walk In Clinic.

Nan is survived by her husband (Jim); three sons, Jacob, Benjamin, and Matthew. Surviving relatives include her loving parents, Bill and Sunny Kerpelman; her sisters, Beth-Ellen (Dolinski) and Natalie (Leonard); her brother, Steve; her nieces, Amanda and Bethani; and her nephew, Stephen. Nan also leaves behind aunts, uncles, and tons of cousins.

Nan was a proud and active member of the Temple Beth Or congregation of Everett, Washington.

Nan also leaves behind a legacy of community service. As part of her post-surgical recovery, she started knitting and organized and directed a non-profit organization, Community Yarn Creations, in 2005. The organization contributes hand-knitted items to community service organizations around the greater Snohomish County and the United States. Today there are Community Yarn Creation groups and individuals in the Puget Sound area, the Southwest U.S., and New York.

Nan has been recognized by the American Red Cross with their 2005 Real Hero's Finely Award; by the National Council of Jewish Women with their 2006 Women Who Dare Award; to name only a few.

Nan will be honored at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2007 at a memorial service at Temple Beth Or; followed by a 3 p.m. graveside service at the GAR Cemetery in Snohomish.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Community Yarn Creations at www.communityyarncreations.org.
